Since I entered the workforce, the role of #HR has evolved a lot... and that's good news! From mainly an admin, tactical and compliance-based function to a real business enabler, now becoming the thinking and acting force behind the #futureofwork concept.
Strategic, Impactful and Innovative.
However, there is one critical dimension the HR function still has room to develop: helping organizations, teams and individuals pivoting and accelerating towards #sustainability.
It is still under the radar but HR is uniquely positioned to guide organizations through the sustainability transition, ensuring that people are equipped, engaged, and resilient in the face of climate challenges.
How?
1. By aligning the #culture, #behaviors, and #policies towards green transition. (examples: rewarding people for not taking their car to work when possible, using performance and compensation incentives to reward good and sustainable behaviors).
2. By creating an ambitious training plan to develop the needed skills: would it be technical skills on green transition (#greenfinance, #greensupplychain, #greenoperations, etc...), awareness trainings (from the Climate Fresk to 2tonnes or other similar workshops) or soft skills on enabling the critical mindset change (#changemanagement, #influencing #skills, Inner Development Goals , etc...)
3. By engaging employes and communicating on sustainable initiatives, supported by the company but also by employees themselves (from beach cleaning to matching donations, replacing goodies by ... nothing?)
4. By supporting #health and safety measures for employees who are facing tougher work conditions due to climate change (construction and outdoors workers, health professionals, first time responders,...) and thinking ahead to adapt their job (equipment, working hours, but also #mentalhealth support as their working environment becomes harder).
Last but not least, HR is uniquely positioned as a transversal function (we speak with everyone and we have a view on all parts of the business) to influence, advocate and be that voice of the reason.
